Detailed Article:

South Africa’s cricket team, which was stranded in India due to international airspace closures caused by the ongoing Middle East conflict, will begin flying home starting Wednesday.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that arrangements have been made for the entire South African contingent to depart within the next 36 hours.

Several international cricket teams were left stuck in India after the closure of key airspace routes disrupted travel across the region. The teams had remained in the country even after their campaigns in the Twenty20 World Cup ended.

England had managed to return home two days after losing in the semi finals, which led to criticism from officials and supporters in the South African and West Indian camps regarding the delay in arranging flights for other teams.

However, the ICC rejected the criticism, stating that all travel decisions were made with safety and logistical feasibility in mind.

In a statement, the ICC said the safety and welfare of players and officials remained its top priority and that teams would only be moved once safe travel arrangements were confirmed.

Meanwhile, Cricket West Indies also confirmed that it had arranged commercial flights for its players and staff, who will return home in three separate groups.
