Summary

Ousted Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam has strongly rejected the dissolution of the board, calling it a “constitutional coup.” He has appealed to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to intervene, claiming the move violates rules against government interference in cricket administration.

Detailed News

Aminul Rejects Removal as Illegal

Former BCB chief Aminul Islam has refused to accept his removal, stating that the decision to dissolve the elected board is unlawful and unconstitutional.

He insisted that he remains the legitimate president unless a court rules otherwise.

Labels Move a ‘Constitutional Coup’

Aminul described the government’s action as a “constitutional coup,” arguing that the dissolution of an elected board and replacement with an ad-hoc committee violates the board’s constitution.

He also termed the newly formed committee a “sham entity” and refused to recognize its authority.

Appeal to ICC Over Interference

The former chief has formally appealed to the International Cricket Council, urging it to intervene and protect the independence of cricket administration.

He warned that such actions breach ICC rules, which prohibit government interference in cricket boards.

Denies Allegations of Fraud

Aminul rejected all allegations of corruption and election manipulation related to the October 2025 BCB elections, stating that the process was conducted transparently under a legitimate election commission.

He claimed that accusations of irregularities are politically motivated attempts to destabilize the board.

Government Forms New Committee

The crisis began after authorities dissolved the board following an investigation into alleged election irregularities and appointed a new ad-hoc committee led by Tamim Iqbal to run operations and organize fresh elections.

Concerns Over Cricket Governance

Aminul warned that the ongoing dispute could harm Bangladesh cricket’s global image, disrupt player development, and affect investor confidence.
