Our marriage proves that idea of love jihad is fake, says Indian Hindu woman who wed Muslim man

We are a legally married couple and I am satisfied that court counseled our union. No one can separate us now. That was 24-year-antique Sruthi Meledath’s reaction to the Kerala Top Court docket verdict on October 19 declaring her marriage to 26-year-vintage Anees Hameed. Meledath is Hindu at the same time as Hameed is Muslim. The couple shot into the spotlight in advance this month whilst Meledath testified in courtroom in regards to the physical and mental torture she had gone through at the Sivasakti Yogavidya Kendram in Ernakulam district.

The Yogavidya Kendram is amongst a handful of so-called reconversion centres functioning in Kerala by which Hindu women who have fallen in love with men from different religions are subjected to various strategies together with coercion to bring them back to Hinduism. In the couple’s first media interview due to the fact that they have been reunited Meledath informed that she will continue to live as a Hindu whilst her husband will follow the faith into which he was once born. This is our reply to proponents of fake ‘love jihad’ marketing campaign Meledath said. Love jihad is a term continuously utilized by Hindutva enterprises to allege a conspiracy by Muslim men to marry ladies from different religions only to transform them to Islam. In addition to Meledath and Hameed two other inter-faith couples have been dragged to courtroom in recent months as Kerala studies a wave of panic about spiritual conversions.
